2SiMS Membership
Membership
Membership at 2 Spirits in Motion Society is how we stay connected as a national community. Our members are Indigenous Two-Spirit and Indigiqueer folks, LGBTQQIA+ kin, and Indigenous allies who take part in our gatherings, circles, and decision making. Members attend events, share knowledge during community visits, participate in councils, and contribute to national conversations about 2S wellbeing.
Each year we invite people to join or renew their membership by completing our online form. There are no membership fees. The form helps us keep contact information current, understand who we are serving across regions, and confirm who is eligible to vote at our Annual General Meeting in line with our bylaws. Membership is one of the ways we make sure 2SiMS reflects the direction of the people it represents.
Who Our Members Are
-
Elders who work with 2SiMS share language, teachings, and life experience that guide our work. As members they support planning, community visits, gatherings, and circles, and offer direction on protocols, care, and how we respond to issues affecting 2S people across regions.
-
2S and Indigiqueer youth are at the centre of our membership. Youth members take part in gatherings, online events, and the Youth Council. Their ideas help shape digital projects, youth forums, medicine harvests, and other activities that speak to what young people are asking for.
-
Matriarchs include Indigenous women, Two-Spirit and gender-diverse relatives who hold matriarchal roles in their families and communities. As members and Matriarch Council participants, they help 2SiMS respond to issues such as safety, gender justice, reproductive rights, mentorship, and community care.
-
Community members are Indigenous Two-Spirit, Indigiqueer, 2SLGBTQQIA+ and allied relatives who join our membership to stay involved in the everyday work. They attend gatherings and powwows, respond to surveys, join online spaces, and share local realities so we can better understand needs, gaps, and priorities across regions.
-
Representatives from partner organizations sometimes hold membership where it fits our bylaws and agreements. These can include regional 2S groups, Indigenous women’s and gender-diverse organizations, health services, and community programs that collaborate with 2SiMS. Their participation helps coordinate work, share information, and bring local experience into national planning.
Why Membership Matters
Membership strengthens our collective voice. A broad and diverse membership helps show funders, governments, and partners that our work reflects real community priorities across regions.
Membership also helps reduce isolation. Many 2S people live in rural, remote, or urban settings where there are few local supports. Through membership, people can connect with gatherings, online events, and peer networks, and know that there is a national circle they are part of.
By becoming a member, individuals help ensure that 2SiMS is accountable to the people it serves. Members shape our direction through AGMs, community committees, and everyday conversations about what is needed next.
